Sound Healing

The roots of sound therapy can be traced back to ancient civilizations, the therapeutic use of sound was integral to rituals and healing ceremonies across various cultures, including Egypt, Greece, India and Indigenous peoples. Instruments such as metal singing bowls, gongs, drums and the voice were used to create a calming, restorative environment that encouraged deep relaxation and shifts in brainwave activity.

Sound therapy posits that everything including our bodies, is in a constant state of vibration. When the body is under stress, injured or unwell it vibrates at a lower frequency. Through the principles of oscillation and resonance sound therapy helps restore your body’s balance aiding healing.

The power of Sound Healing

Sound waves travel through the body via the nervous system, tissues and skeletal structure, influencing how the body responds to stress and relaxation. When exposed to calm, steady tones, the body often begins to down-regulate naturally, breathing slows, muscle tension softens and the nervous system shifts toward a parasympathetic (rest-and-restore) state.

Sound healing supports the body’s innate capacity for regulation and recovery. From a therapeutic perspective, sound provides a non-verbal form of support. It allows the nervous system to respond without the need for cognitive processing or discussion. This can be especially helpful for individuals who feel overwhelmed, fatigued or disconnected from their bodies.

In modern sound healing sessions other instruments are also being used such as crystal singing bowls, chimes and tuning forks.
